The Importance of Teachableness
- For spiritual growth (Hebrews 5:11-14)
- For a life of obedience (Matthew 11:29; Philippians 4:9; James 1:25)
- For discerning God’s guidance (Psalm 25:4-5)
The Hindrances to Teachableness
- The Devil’s activity (2 Timothy 2:25-26)
- Not having the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 2:14)
- Being afraid to ask questions (Mark 9:32, ALSO verses 33-34)
- Relying on the world’s wisdom (1 Cor. 1:19-20)
- Unwillingness to be taught (James 1:22-24; Psalm 81:11-12)
The Requirements for Teachableness
- Willingness to learn
- Example of Jesus (John 5:30; 8:26-28; 15:15; Heb 5:8)
- Learn from God (Deut. 5:27)
- Learn from God’s representatives (Deut. 31:12)
- Learn from parents (Proverbs 23:22-23)
- Readiness to ask for help (Acts 8:30-31)
- Readiness to pray (James 1:5)
- Living by the truth already known (2 Peter 1:5-8)
